Women-led restaurants in Koreatown

Generational transitions in restaurant ownership, such as Soban where mother Jennifer Pak and daughter Deborah Pak run the restaurant [1], and the legacy of Beverly Soon Tofu founded by Monica Lee [2], illustrate women-led operations in Koreatown. However, no data exists on the proportion of Koreatown restaurants that are women-founded, women-led-with-male-founder, or male-led. The sources also do not discuss the cultural division of labor by gender between kitchen and front-of-house in Korean restaurants. A survey or census of Koreatown restaurant ownership and a study of gendered labor roles in Korean restaurant operations would be needed to answer these questions.
